Movie Theatres in Laguna Beach
Lynn Theaters, one, two, and three - Aufdenkamp family.
Around silent movies were shown at 255 Forest Ave. in what was called the Lynn Theater (after son Lynn Aufdenkamp). In 1922, the Audenkamps opened a new Lynn Theater on the highway where the present South Coast Theater is situated. In 1935, they moved that theater to Ocean Avenue. and called it The Lynn Ocean Avenue Theater. They then build new larger theater at the highway site - that building is what is still there today. Oh yes, they called the new 1935 theater The New Lynn Theater. In 1936 or 1937 they leased both businesses to the Vincent family, who rename the highway building “South Coast Theater” and the Ocean Avenue building becomes the “Laguna Theater.”

The Old Concord Stagecoach

The old Concord stagecoach that serviced Laguna for so many years stopped running about 1910. It was always sheltered in the Dan Ponder barn located where, the library is today. When it was retired, it was on exhibit for a number of years. It was later sold by the owner, Mrs. Joseph Skidmore, for $50 to a movie company that demolished it completely by running it over a cliff at Dana Point during a filming. It was a great loss to the posterity of Laguna Beach.

Laguna Clay Company
From http://www.lagunaclay.com/laguna.htm#history

Laguna Clay Company's history is deeply rooted in clay. Jon Brooks, the company's president, learned the science of clay and glaze chemistry from his geologist father who developed several of the mines from which Laguna's raw materials are still mined today. Jon combined this scientific education with two other critical ingredients - a love for clay which he gleaned from his mother and father who were prominent Laguna Beach, California potters in the 1960's and 1970's, and Jon's own passion for business. The results - a kid who, at the age of 7, was developing his own clay formulas; at the age of 9 was throwing (and selling!) award winning pots, and sculpting clay clowns for southern California interior designers; and a few short years later was developing one of the most successful ceramic supply businesses in the country.

Industry, Radio, & Shipping

Merle and Mabel Ramsey in their book “The First 100 Years in Laguna Beach 1876 - 1976” wrote the following.

 INDUSTRY IN THE EARLY DAYS
Elmer Jahraus arrived in the village in 1903 and established a cigar factory in 1905 in the lower story of the Yoch Hotel. It was an exclusive product and was not for local consumption. It was shipped throughout the United States to only certain people. It was transported by stagecoach from Laguna Beach to EI Toro and then by train throughout the U.S.
